In the year 2000, four fishermen had a dream of starting a fishing club, and fishing their own water. From that dream the Diamond fishing club was formed.

By 2001 the club had approx 20 members and were negotiating with Nottingham county council for the lease of 2 ponds on what was Cotgrave pit site.

In 2002, the club was granted the lease of the 2 ponds on what is now known as Cotgrave Country Park. In the same year the club re-located to Cotgrave Welfare, changing its name to Cotgrave Welfare Diamond Angling Club and became a section of the Welfare Scheme.

At present only the larger one of the two ponds is being stocked, the smaller having a substantial leak and requires relining. Stocking started in 2003 and will continue in a controlled programme. In October tench and bream will be introduced to add to the carp, roach & bream already stocked.

At this present moment we have 100 members, including 3 junior members, but are hoping to attract more juniors via the Cotgrave Youth Club, some of whom have been with us on various fishing trips to other fishing venues.

This year we booked away venues for the 1st time, and aim to keep these going every season. Venues this year include Portland, Lakeview, Lakeside, Lower Lakes, Holly Well & Peacock Lake. We aim to start fishing inter-club evening matches next season as well as more matches on our pond on alternative weekends.

This year we have appointed two bailiffs but it is to be remembered that all members are bailiffs and can request non-members to leave.

Meetings are held on every second Saturday of the month at 11am in the Cotgrave Welfare Scheme where all members are welcome.
